Fans of New Jersey native Brian Donnelly's
KAWS alias may remember his
Final Days museum installation from 2014 at
CAC Málaga, the focal feature being the six black sculptures debuted there, including a truly massive "Kurf" rendition in a vaguely Frankenstein's monster-like pose. And if you're not sure what a "Kurf" is, then it is a
KAWS+
SMURF design, the artist remodeling his iconic "Companion" character into the likeness of one of those small, blue, human-like creatures that lived in mushroom-shaped houses in the forest and were hunted by their sworn enemy, Gargamel. But while the above-pictured piece looks like the one from that exhibit, it's actually something new. Titled "Final Days", this 9½ × 8½ × 6½ inch piece is a bronze sculpture that will be exclusively available from
Pace Prints's
Art Basel Hong Kong booth (1B39). Limited to an edition of 25 pieces, we are forewarned that no orders for these brand new works will be accepted at the gallery directly, by phone, or through email; those interested have to attend Art Basel and go to Pace Prints' booth.
