Inspired by 2008's "3 Bears" series of 8-inch tall produced Dunnys designed by TADO, ILOVEDUST, and Jon Burgerman, a trio of
Red Mutuca Studios members handmade the "
3 X-Mas Bears" to be displayed at Kidrobot's New York storefront in 2011. Included in those pieces were
Luihz Unreal's "Clumsy Elf Bear" and
Sergio Mancini's "Jack T., the shining bear", which were joined by
Igor Ventura's "Firework disaster". Described at the time as depicting "a pyromaniac bear who loves fireworks and had a little mishap while partying on Christmas Eve", Ventura's creation sculpted a bear-like nose on the form and turned the Dunny's rabbit ears into firecrackers, one being lit and the already exploded! Of course, the burnt out match accessory rounds out the scene. And the new 3-inch rendition of the concept is every bit as good, the artist's added experience manifesting as a more painterly texturing across the form. But my favorite aspect are Ventura's always expressive eyes, the original version's angry appearance replaced by a more surprised and sad one. Completely with scarf created by Ventura's wife, Claudia, this masterfully crafted work is unfortunately not available for sale as it was commissioned by a private collector, but others can arrange for their own works by Ventura by contacting the Red Mutuca Studios, which represents him, at
