ToyQube's
New York Comic Con booth is always a top-notch visit. Sadly, they usually have very little available for sale, and what they do have tends to sell out quickly, but marveling at all the prototypes of their forthcoming art pieces is a worth the trip alone! This year they showed off Jeff Gillette's mouse-like "Disdain" piece, which we'd see before, as well as Tara McPherson's "Skull Flower" in two sizes, Camilla d'Errico's sushi-esque "Rainbow Roll" that will be decorated in a vibrant and colorful array, and Josh Keyes's "The Collector" sculpture that will be coming out shortly! Keith Poon, the founder of the company, was kind enough to spend quite a while chatting with me, teasing how ToyQube will also be producing a rendition of McPherson's "The Fountain" design, a woman with a waterfall running through her chest, in a similar manner to Alex Pardee's "The Astronaut", the majority being cast in resin with ABS plastic for the liquid. Speaking of Pardee's creation, there was an unreleased green-and-black version on display that will debut at
3DRetro on Oct. 21st and available at toyqube.com about a week later. Then, regarding Pardee's "Half A Nice Day" design, they showed off not only the sold out, original yellow version but also the forthcoming
StrangeCat Toys exclusive black/yellow version and ToyQube's
DesignerCon exclusive black version!
