Earlier this year, many designer toy fans lamented the announcement that
Huck Gee would no longer be a full-time artist in the art toy world; but, the glimmer of hope at the time, was that he had several projects still in the works and would be continuing his "Gold Life" partnership with
Mighty Jaxx. Speaking of which, Mighty Jaxx have issued the above teaser for an upcoming 4-inch tall ABS plastic figure from the line, which certainly appears to be a rendition of "Abiru: Ornery Panda Shinsengumi"! First seen in August of 2011 as a custom (pictured below) and then later that year as a production Dunny, Gee described this character as being at "one time renowned as a talented sword master" who "was an early member of the elite, albeit troubled, peacekeeping squad, Shinsengumi", named after the real-life special police force that was active from 1864 until 1869. Having avoided "several assassination attempts and losing many close ones to the deadly political turmoil of the capital", Gee explains of his character, "he became most well known as a gambler, a womanizer, and a drunk". And now, it seems, he's heading towards the production line again. Expect more in the near future about this adorable panda swordsman!
