At last year's
DesignerCon, the artist
Colus debuted his "
Deer Crossing" resin sculpture, depicting a graceful buck whose antlers have been morphed into a giant, cross-like X. Though not necessarily religious in nature, it does remind me of the Saint Hubertus stag, which was said to have a crucifix between its horns. But, either way, it is a masterfully crafted work, each 8-inch tall, 5-inch wide, and 5-inch deep piece having been carefully hand-crafted out of seven cast components. After its 2016 debut, the deer's body being black and the horns being white, this year's DCon will see the return of this design in the two new, above-pictured color schemes: pure black as well as white body with black horns! With very low numbers of these being available at the artist's DCon booth #128, we're told that these will be $120 apiece and we doubt they'll last long. But that's not all he'll have with him…
Colus will also have his "Tabuh Rah" resin sculpture at DCon in a black and gold edition. Depicting a rooster poised in a battle-ready stance, lifted up by its tail and wings, this 8-inch tall, 6-inch wide, and 9-inch deep's title means "pouring blood", emphasizing the cockfighting nature of the beast. Hand-assembled from eight resin cast parts, the version is limited to an edition of 6 copies, which we assume will be $300 apiece, based on the price from
the original release back in April.
