Mariangela Tan, who is also known as plushPLAY, was given the opportunity to spread her artistic wings recently, with the
Clutter Magazine Gallery granting her center stage for a solo exhibition. The resulting series of works is titled
Bloom and sees Tan revisit one of her earliest designs: 2010's Sextopus. Displayed in both resin cast and needle felted wool versions, this strange sea creature is complimented by several delicately formed crepe paper flowers, each with a surreal underwater twist. I was lucky enough to attend the opening night of the exhibition, taking a good number of overview photos, which I turned into a recap (with some text) for the
CoART Magazine site, the article for which can be read
HERE.
