Spanish artist
Javier Calleja's illustrations are reminiscent of
Yoshitomo Nara's work, which makes sense as Calleja apprenticed for several years under the celebrated Japanese pop minimalist. But where Nara's cartoonish minimalism is tinged with cynicism, Calleja's paintings are imbued with optimism. Having won several awards himself for his impressions of innocence, as well as being the subject of over a dozen solo exhibitions worldwide, Calleja has finally ventured into the world of art toys with his "Missing the Blue Sky" piece.
