Though there is a certain sadomasochistic steampunk element to faux-Victorian leathery diving suit with all its metal rivets and patch plates, artist
Jump Jumper Ant chose the name of this piece carefully to provide insight into the work's intent. Titled "Apsu", which is more commonly written "abzu", this term was used by the Sumerians and Akkadians to refer to the primeval sea between the underworld (Kur) and the earth (Ma). Translating literally as "deep water", it was meant more as a form of cosmic water originating from the void space, the source of all fresh water throughout the world. And for her custom 3-inch tall Dunny manifestation of this concept, Jump Jumper Ant has foregone her signature resin doll eye addition, emphasizing the mysteriousness of this form through a recessed blank face behind the diver mask grating. With a touch of Japanese armor aesthetic to the outer design, this one-of-a-kind work is available now from the artist, who can be contacted by email at
