One of the key facets of "body horror" is that one's own physical being rebelling against them, something corrupting the person from deep inside and making their form mutate uncontrollably. And this fits the Asian-inspired sculpture "Melting Cells" from Italian artist Alessandro Randi (aka
CodecZombie), which feels like its individuality is slowly being lost, not just through its two-headed nature but the fungus-like growths exuding from it. Standing 9⅕-inches (23½cm) tall, this white resin piece has been hand-painted with an airbrush, granting reddish hues to the bulbous parts as well as grayish shadowing to the underside. Packed in custom-made boxes with thermoformed transparent toppers that recall a nuclear reactor hall's appearance, each of the 15 pieces in this limited edition comes signed, numbered, and with a proof of purchase. Available now in the
CodecZombie online shop for €240 (approx. $248) apiece, these stunning sculptural works of art are early contenders for my Top 10 of the year list already!
