Furthering their interpretations of
DC Comics's Justice League of America members (and nemeses),
Mighty Jaxx have unveiled the seventh wave of their officially licensed pieces in the JLA "
XXRay" line. Depicting Catwoman, Robin, and Supergirl, each of these 4-inch tall PVC pieces has been designed in a cartoonish manner by illustrator
Ben Qwek and sculptor Adam Tan with the quarter-cut dissection element courtesy of
Jason Freeny. Not scheduled for delivery until the end of 2017, we can still marvel at these works now…
Originally known simply as "the Cat" when she debuted in
Batman #1 (Spring 1940), Catwoman was a mainstay of the Gotham City rouge's gallery until the 1990s, when she became depicted as an antiheroine rather than a traditional villain. This appearance is more inline with her current look, which was introduced in 2001 and was inspired by Emma Peel's iconic leather catsuit in
The Avengers television series, with more of a high tech look and domino-shaped infrared goggles on her cowl.
While several characters have occupied the Boy Wonder costume alongside Batman, this version appears to be Damian Wayne, the child of Bruce Wayne and Talia al Ghul, thus the grandson of the immortal Ra's al Ghul. Trained by the League of Assassins from a young age, this Robin was a bit more violent and impetuous than previous versions of the character. Since the "New 52", Damian met his end at the hands of Heretic, an aged-clone of himself, though Batman eventually started a difficult quest to resurrect his son…
The most familiar version of Supergirl, Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El, first appeared in
Action Comics #252 (May 1959). The details of her biography have shifted over the years, and many will simply know her from Melissa Benoist's portrayal on the CW television show, she is every bit as powerful and impressive as the Man of Steel himself.
