Fans of Jun Takahashi's Japanese streetwear brand
UNDERCOVER probably recognize the "GRACE Doll" design, the character concept having become an unofficial mascot for the cult label. For instance, as pictured below, several handmade "GRACE Doll" pieces were displayed at Takahashi's GRACE photo exhibition at Hong Kong's Joyce boutique, the exhibition intended as the debut "lookbook" for UNDERCOVER's Spring/Summer 2009 line. Making the leap from handmade art piece to vinyl sculpture courtesy of
Medicom Toy, the overall profile of the design is captured in the harder medium. Adorned in the same Victorian Gothic style, I do wish the beast's "skin" was heavily flocked or the like, giving a similar texture to the originals, and that the "eye" had a built-in LED… but we can't have it all, right? Available on November 19th, 2016 from
UNDERCOVER &
Medicom Toy stockists and stores, these "GRACE Doll" pieces will be ¥8424 JPY (approx. $80) apiece.
