If you weren't able to attend
James Jean exhibition at Tokyo's Hidari Zingaro Gallery, curated by Takashi Murakami, then you are in luck as Jean's newest book,
Zugzwang, is a catalog of the new work that were displayed there, as well as exploratory works, process images, and even ancillary pieces created during same period. Measuring 12¼" × 9⅛", this 80-page collection pulls out all the stops: gilded edges, a signed & embossed bookplate, and every buyer even gets a chance to win one of three original drawings by Jean! Limited to 2000 copies in the first edition ($40 each) plus 250 "special edition" copies ($200 each) that include a cloth slipcase with magnetic enclosure and an exclusive foil-embossed letterpress print. But, of course, if you want to guarantee yourself one of those original illustrations then you can splurge on the "art edition" ($1000), which includes all the bonuses of the "special edition" along with an original piece, though this AP version is limited to a mere 3 copies. All three variations of this book release will be available on August 9th, 2016 at 8am Pacific time in
Jean's online shop.
