What is the right balance between the creativity of concept and clunkiness of execution to result in the perfect bootleg figure? I don't know the answer, but I do recognize that this new work by
Dead Greedy isn't it… Titled "Her-Man," it is a sloppy mixing of elements from a He-Man action figure's body with head and one arm in the likeness of Pee-Wee Herman. The idea behind this is fantastic, a wonderful play on two entertainment franchise's names having similarity but contrasting aesthetics… and that's where the problem comes in. Looking like what it is, parts from one figure just forced onto another, there is no skillful execution at work here. And it's too bad… If this had been a completely original sculpt of Pee-Wee Herman, with all his gawky wonderfulness, attired in nothing by He-Man's garb — especially if they were awkwardly oversized — I'd say this was a hit that could sell forever! As it stands this piece, which is limited to 5 hand-cast and hand-painted figures, will probably sell out of from the
Craptastic Plastic eBay store regardless. But, they could've sold a lot more if it was better made, I think…
