While artist
Abigail Goldman doesn't create art toys, she does create art out of toys. Goldman creates dioramas the reveal a very violent slice of life, ones that she calls Dieoramas, each containing things like white picket lawns and manicured lawns marred by ghastly scenes of dismemberment. These pieces, which manifest as both free-standing and wall-mounted sculptures, are constructed out of a variety of materials, including synthetic grass, styrofoam, and model train set figures. In an interview with Juxtapox Magazine, Goldman clarifies that she works "in a scale of 1:87 — that breaks down to 3.5 mm representing one foot. So, the figures in the work are less than an inch tall." Bringing her works with a fascination for crime and forensics back to the place of her birth, San Francisco, Goldman has a solo exhibition titled "Mea Culpa" at the
Hashimoto Contemporary (804 Sutter Street) that opens on August 4th, 2016 and remains displayed until the 27th.
