I've always found the concept of the Hand of Glory to be fascinating, the base myth being that if you took the left hand from a thief who was hung, then dried and pickled the severed limb, that the resultant five-pointed candelabra would render motionless everyone that the light shone upon (aside from the holder obviously). So I was thrilled when the 18-Century curio was being given a modern day makeover in vinyl courtesy of German artist
Florian Bertmer's design and UK-based producer
Unbox Industries. Titled simply "
Hand of Glory," this is based on Bertmer's 2011 illustration "There is a light that never goes out," though the above-pictured test paint is way more realistic (and creepy) looking than we anticipated it would be! Absolutely beautiful, this edition will be available from
Unbox in July 2016 with "less realistic versions" being released later. Considering we heard that they had "some pretty tripped out variants" planned, we can't wait to see the future of this hyper-detailed designer toy release.
