In what appears to be a strange artistic mashup, Venezuelan artist
Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez appears to have taken some of his kaiju textured, Barom-1 inspired legs and affixed nightmarishly realistic shrunken head sculpts atop them, resulting in a massive head sans body or arms… just mobility! These one-of-a-kind, hand-painted pieces by the artist are the focus of a mini solo exhibition titled “Shrunken Heads,” taking place at
Clutter Gallery and running concurrent with the
previously announced “Bear in Mind” show. In an age when the shrunken head has made a comeback in artistic form, specifically I'm thinking of RESTORE’s Dry Head pieces and UME Toys’s recent Shrunken Head sculpts, this seems like a fresh take on the concept. I can't wait to see a proper reveal of the full works, which will be available online first to members of
The Clutter Gallery's Preview List.
Shrunken Heads, a Carlos Enriquez Gonzalez solo exhibition, will open on Saturday, May 14th with a reception from 6-9
PM local time and be on display until June 3rd, 2016 at
The Clutter Gallery, 163 Main St., Beacon, NY 12508.
