Surrealist film director
Alejandro Jodorowsky created what are considered the first-ever midnight cult films: midnight movie & underground cinema circuit hits
El Topo (1970) and
Holy Mountain (1973). And now it appears these classics are coming to the designer toy world! Working closely with Jodorowsky and ABKCO Films,
Unbox Industries have begun making a series of statues based director's work, though all teasers at this point have been of the acid western
El Topo and the fantastical exporation of western esotericism
Holy Mountain. These statues will be released in a variety of materials, but the initial pieces will be cold cast resin figures made from original sculptures by
Andrea Blasich and personally approved by Jodorowsky. For more traditional art toy fans that might be a bit taken aback by this more statue-esque direction, fear not… we're told there will be vinyl releases within the Jodorowsky licensed line as well!
