Highbrow. Middlebrow. Lowbrow. It doesn't really matter what label you want to slap onto
Flabslab's creations because they don't really give a ****. The only thing that matters to them is the preservation of creative energy and process, and probably having balls of fun along the way. They have been
teasing Nigo Had it for a long time, and though it was originally slated to drop before or at STGCC, the closest anyone could get to Astro was peering through a display glass.
However, I had the honour of handling it during the event and it's not something you want to lug around for toy photography shoots. Measuring 15" wide and 9" tall, this sleeping beauty is anything but light, especially once it nestles snugly in its custom wooden box.
"The actual piece shown in the Sotheby's catalog was Lot 22 in the NIGO Only Lives Twice auction in Oct 2014. We saw this as the example of the man's brilliance. Of being able to put things together and creating something new. The Astroboy without the Jean Prouve Marcoule bench would just have been Astroboy. Putting the 2 together as 1 piece gave it a new meaning. The piece went for HKD 1.3mil or about USD 165,000."
As with all their releases, it will be extremely limited, and with such uncanny replication, I wouldn't expect it to be lower than $600 and wouldn't be surprised if it hits a magical 4 digit. Am I hearing a collective gasp? Don't forget. Owning one would certainly give you the most distinct bragging rights - Nigo Had It.
