I'm a big fan of Japanese folklore, specifically their supernatural monsters… the yōkai! So it is thrilling to see artist
Mikie Graham transform 6-inch tall “Lolligag” vinyl figure into a resculpted, one-of-a-kind, 8-inch tall work of art depicting a “Futakuchi-onna,” a yōkai that is a woman with a voracious extra mouth on the back of her head! Known as the "two-mouthed woman," this yōkai has — as you might guess — two mouths: a normal one located on her face, and second one on the back of the head beneath the hair, where the woman's skull splits apart, forming lips, teeth, and a tongue. Graham’s depiction is slightly cartoonish, which fits the “Lolligag” figure’s shape well as well as recalls the popular Japanese manga style. A fantastic piece which is
currently available online for $350.
Vive La Lolligag! will be on display until September 30th, 2015 at
Woot Bear Gallery, 147 Clement St., San Fransisco, CA 94118.
