Mab Graves’s “The Countess” for Animal Welfare Charity Auction!

Self-taught pop surrealist artist Mab Graves adores narratives, particularly those involving fairy tales and old classic literature. And these inspirations are apparent in her newest work, “The Countess,” a 9½ × 10½ inch pencil and graphite illustration made for the More Than A Cone charity art auction, a project that enlisted some of today’s leading artists to transform the ”cone of shame” into a work of art. With proceeds from the auction going towards The Shelter Pet Project, Angel City Pit Bulls, Kitten Rescue, and Best Friends Animal Society, Graves admits that she “was trying to think of the most elegant and dignified coning kitty” when the image of “the Countess came to me.” Describing this work, Graves focuses on the “endless dignity and style in the face of her Baroque ailments,” all speaking to how this feline “will NOT be shamed!” You can bid on Graves’s signed piece HERE until August 30th, 2015 at 7 pm Pacific time.
