Named after the Japanese term for an apprentice geisha in western Japan, especially Kyoto, the 13½-inch tall “Maiko” (
舞妓) figure from
2PetalRose is created anew in the commissioned “Midori Maiko” (above) and “Oldskool Maiko (Adidas)” (below) versions. This sculptural piece has always had an almost feminist appeal, exploring the gender-breaking world of a woman partially garbed as a samurai. Both these versions were completely hand-crafted by the artist after being commissioned by a private art collector, with those interested in acquiring something similar being encouraged to contact the artist directly at
2petalrose [at] gmail [dot] com.
