This past weekend,
The Museum of Art and History (MOAH) in Lancaster, California hosted
The Art of Toys: A Left Coast Retrospective of Designer Toys, an exhibition curated by Julie B. from
Pretty in Plastic and Heidi Johnson of
Hijinx Artist Management & PR... and although we were not able to go out for the event, we had SpankyStokes field reporter, Chris Ly of
The Nerd Lys, was on hand at the opening event to capture all the goodness for us to use! The event, focused on art toys, was a retrospective that featured the top artists and brands who have come to define this art movement over the past twenty years, though the concentration will be on West Coast artists, stores, and manufacturers... some other artists and manufactures were also involved!
The opening to the public was on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 11AM to 6PM, and the exhibition included works by over 80 artists, stores, and manufacturers, including:
Gary Baseman, Luke Chueh, Tristan Eaton, Ron English, Frank Kozik, Joe Ledbetter, Buff Monster, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Mark Ryden, and Greg (CRAOLA) Simkins. In addition to the sculptural toys on display, this exhibition will also feature murals by artists David P. Flores, Hueman (Allison Torneros), and Angry Woebots (Aaron “Woes” Martin). As you can see, the exhibit was full of eye candy, and for those of you who have just acclimated yourself to our small scene... the exhibition is a must. This show will be on display until September 6th, 2015... so you have plenty of time to make it out to see it in person! But... if you can't... enjoy all the photos below in our slideshow!
