Baphomet is a term originally used to describe any of the idols that the Knights Templar were accused of worshipping, but become associated with Eliphas Levi's illustration of Sabbatic Goat in 1856. Inspired by the latter connection, the above art toy head belongs to "Baphomaniac," an upcoming piece designed by
Martin Ontiveros. Sculpted by
David Arshawsky, who is holding the prototype above, these will be produced in soft vinyl by
Toy Art Gallery with an anticipated release set for this Summer! Without seeing the body, we're wondering how they'll incorporate the representation of the "sum total of the universe" that Baphomet typically embodies. And, of course, will the finished figure bear the Latin words SOLVE (separate) and COAGULA (join together) on its arms, indicating the power of "binding and loosing" that it usurped from God?
