
Named after the Japanese term for an apprentice geisha in western Japan, especially Kyoto, the 13½-inch tall “Maiko” (
舞妓) figure from
2PetalRose is created anew in the commissioned “Sakura” (
さくら), or “cherry blossom,” edition. Garbed in a traditional samurai helmet, this sculptural design has an almost feminist appeal, showing a very traditional looking woman taking up a non-traditional & even gender breaking attire. This completely hand-crafted piece was commissioned by a private art collector, with those interested in acquiring something similar being encouraged to contact the artist directly at
