While the true origin of the Fiji mermaid is shrouded in mystery, it has been long suspected that it originated as an art form of fisherman from Japan and the East Indies, constructing faux mermaids by stitched the upper body of a monkey onto the lower torso of a fish. Made famous by P.T. Barnum from his including it in his museum of mysteries and oddities. And now, the better part of 200 years later, Barry Allen Williams's
Gorgoloid kaiju production house has cast resin sculptural interpretations of the beast. With these creatures hopefully available soon, I love the grotesque detailing put into the base design and how the single color execution works perfectly for it.
