Needless to say, many thought Kidrobot lost themselves to their licenses in the last year. With them joining the NECA family and returning to an artist driven company, this officially licensed direction seems to be behind us. But just because it can be a thing of the past, does that mean it should be? Making a formulaic licensed piece by placing the character design atop a base KR vinyl body should not continue, but granting access to NECA's wide variety of licenses to talented artists to play with could be amazing. Licensed isn't a bad word, but it needs to be matched by a creative artist's direction.
This post in no way should be construed as coming from Kidrobot. It is, rather, a hope for the new year that us at SpankyStokes have for the seminal brand. |
