Hoang Tran, a dental school dropout, now uses the same instruments that he once learned to fill cavities as tools to skillfully sculpt pop culture inspired works on wax crayons. Using large size crayons as his base, he's made an array of colorful interpretations based on such varying 'geek' subjects as
Adventure Time and
Star Wars, both pictured above, which will be displayed in his "Wax Nostalgic" solo exhibition. These meticulous and magnificent pieces are not to be missed, surely being even more breathtaking when seen in-person!
"
Wax Nostalgic," a solo show of carved Crayons by Hoang Tran, will open on Saturday, May 3 with a reception from 7-10
PM local time and be on display until May 31st, 2014 at the
Rivet Gallery, 1200 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43201.
