We posted up a teaser HERE a while back telling you about artist
Eric van Straaten and how he decided to embark on making the world's largest 3D printed sculpture... well, it's done! Currently on display at the
Realisme contemporary figurative art fair (January 16-19th, 2014 in the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam), this goliath full-color piece stands at roughly 1.2 meters (or over 47-inches) tall, and while this might not sound massive, for the emerging 3D printing technique that only allows blocks to be made in roughly 15-inch tall increments, this required more than twelve individual parts to be printed and then carefully placed together by hand... and as you can see, it turned out awesome.
With the individual pieces looking super eerie by themselves, the completed piece looks fantastic. This 3D printed full-color sandstone piece, shown above is really impressive, and Eric continues to push the technological levels of what 3D printing can do! If you are in or around the area where this show is taking place, be sure to swing by to see this piece, along with so many others in person!
