Artist
Eric van Straaten has undertaken quite the task: making the world's largest 3D printed sculpture! Currently being produced for display during the
Realisme contemporary figurative art fair (January 16-19th, 2014 in the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam), this goliath full-color piece will stand at roughly 1.2 meters (or over 47-inches) tall when completed. While this might not sound massive, for the emerging 3D printing technique that only allows blocks to be made in roughly 15-inch tall increments, this will require more than twelve individual parts to be printed and then carefully placed together by hand. This 3D printed full-color sandstone piece, shown above in rendered form and below in the actually printed result, will surely impress all once completed!
