Perhaps the work "Orc" immediately summons images from
Lord of the Rings for you — either in bound page or moving picture form — or maybe it invokes recollections of sitting around a table, dice in hand, waiting to slay fiendish monsters in
Dungeons & Dragons in your mind. For me, it summons vague remembrances of a Warhammer spin-off game named
Blood Bowl, wherein a myriad of fantastical creatures were dressed in American Football uniforms and subjected to an ultra-violent version of the sporting event. And based on his "Orcus Hakkus" custom (built out of a Tequilla figure), I can see the
Blood Bowl influence in the garb and armoring, even though I strongly suspect that artist
Don P has never played the game. Per usual, Don P delivers great sculpting and painting, making the piece shine on its own. And, according to Don P, he's "totally in love with orcs now" and "would love to make more into this style." So if you have an orcish fantasy that you would like made into a reality, I'd strongly suggest
dropping Don P an email!
