While we don't normally cover music-related news, the announcement that
Mondo has officially licensed a compilation of selections from five
Studio Ghibli films — Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, The Cat Returns, and My Neighbors The Yamadas — as performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra has us quite excited. Titled "Studio Ghibli Kokyo Kyokushu," the double-LP (two vinyl record) set comes in a four panel gatefold jacket depicting representations of each film by artist
Tyler Stout. And, as you can see above, there are actually three versions being released, each with a different cover panel & colored vinyl LPs: the Howl's Moving Castle version with Purple & Pink vinyl, the Spirited Away version with Yellow & Green vinyl, and the Princess Mononoke version with Blue & Red vinyl. In case you don't own a record player, Mondo will also be releasing $30 apiece t-shirts featuring Stout's incredible artwork. If you want a chance to snag one, follow
Mondo's Twitter feed as that is where they will announce when the pieces are available in
their web shop today (Friday, July 26th, 2013)!
