I have been contemplating how to go about writing this for a few weeks now... ever since I found out about an upcoming show that G1988 is hosting, and I think I finally figured out a way to express how I feel about a new'ish to the scene street artist who goes by the name '
Hanksy'. So how do I feel? I think this guy is hilarious! Playing off the hype that is UK's own Banksy, Hanksy puts his own humerus spin on street art, and rather than taking on serious issues like what Banksy does (government, big brother, war), Hanksy seems like he is having fun, playing off pop culture icons with clever wordsmithing.
I have been following Hanksy on
Instagram, I also saw the rad video teaser that I posted above, and find his work to be extremely light hearted, fun, engaging, and I constantly find myself thinking "That is so clever, why haven't I thought of that"? His creations like "
Cage Against The Machine", which features Nicholas Cage riding the "ED209" robot from the movie RoboCop, and "
TRon Swanson" featuring Ron Swanson's head from the Parks & Recreation television show on top of "TronGuy's" body, also remind me of the cleverness that
Alex Pardee brings to the pop culture world with his mash-ups! Needless to say... I dig what is being done here, and if you find entertaining like I do, then don't miss "How The West Was Pun", the NYC street artist's West Coast debut at G1988 this Friday, May 24th 2013!
