Sam Griffiths aka
Planet Domu had taken somewhat of a hiatus from art... but that's just because he has been working on a new resin series with
runDMB... and it can finally be unveiled, introducing the War Tourist project. Standing at 4" tall and cast in pure white resin, the War Tourist is beautifully finished and has been complemented by the artists involved in the first custom series which includes customs from
Jon-Paul Kaiser, Mister Lister, A Little Stranger, Stu Witter, runDMB, MapMap, Uncle Absinthe, Pete Fowler, Mimic, and Mr. Gauky. The blank War Tourist will be released at the first ToyCon UK event next weekend along with the first custom series of ten artists pieces. Each blank War Tourist comes packaged in its own bespoke black cube box with a white canvas band printed with the back story and individually numbered.
The artist series are boxed in the same packaging and have the artists logo printed on the band. The packaging for this piece was a big part of the design process as both runDMB and Sam believe that the package a piece comes in is as important as the piece itself. To further celebrate the launch, they ran a competition to customize one of two giant, two foot tall fiberglass War Tourists. Both were made by Sam and one was given to the talented Jon-Paul Kaiser to customize. The competition was won by Lisa Rae Hansen of ‘I break Toys’ and both of these huge customs will be on display on their own tables at the event. Everything will be for sale at the event and if anything remains, it will be up in Sam's online store after the event!
