Banksy pays tribute to Cecília Gimenez's Jesus Fresco!
If you're familiar with the case of Cecília Gimenez — the 80+ year old woman who painted over a 19th-Century Elías García Martínez "ecce homo" fresco, supposedly in an attempt to restore the depiction even though Gimenez lacked any experience doing such — then it should come as no surprise that it caught the attention of Banksy. After all, how could he resist commenting on the actual case of vandalism in which a unique piece of art was marred but is being called a "good intended misunderstanding," while he works in a medium that turns a blank wall into art but is called vandalism?
