*REVIEW* Luke Chueh's "The Art Of Luke Chueh - Bearing The Unbearable" art book.
A few days ago I had the pleasure of receiving an advanced copy of Luke Chueh's new book - "The Art Of Luke Chueh - Bearing The Unbearable" - and was totally taken back by the depth of the content that was contained in this book. I actually shared this review LIVE with viewers of a web broadcast that can be seen above. I flip through a majority of the pages, but don't show off the entire book... because if I did that, what would make you want to buy the book if I showed the entire thing to you :-) This amazing collection, catalogs most all of Luke's work from the years 2003-2009... well over 200 pieces, all layed out beautifully! This book, surprisingly, is Luke's first, and it was produced by Gallery 1988 and published by Titan Books... both companies did Luke's work extreme justice with this endeavor, making this book a must for art/toy collectors!
One of the many things that stood out to me in the pages of this book is the very vivid explanation of some of the paintings from Luke himself. Most of the time, an artists work is very open to interpretation, and Luke's work very much embodies this notion and leaves the viewer questioning "What does this mean?"... well, Luke explains where he was in his life, what he was going through, and what he tried to convey through said piece... it's fantastic!!! The art is bold, most of the time 1 page features a full piece... really inviting the viewer into Luke's mind, making each flip of the page a journey though an artists path.
I really can't say enough good things about this book, as I am all about collection art/toy related books. They are amazing sources of inspiration, and personally I feel a deep connection while browsing the pages. This book is a must, and can be picked up officially starting on Saturday, June 9th from 1PM to 4PM, as Chueh will do a book signing at Gallery1988, which will be accompanied by a solo art show of Chueh's original sketches from those first seven years. Then at Gallery Nucleus on June 16th which will also include an exclusive print to compliment the book... and there are a whole slew of other signings which can be found HERE. The book is retailing for $35, and I encourage you, if you are in or around the areas where the signing are taking place... go and get your book there and meet Luke, as he is a humble dude and would be stoked to meet you, just as much as you are to meet him!
