When psychedelics met psychobilly: the art of Jared Tharp
Have you ever thought, "I should drop some acid and play some classic video games"? Silly question; of course you have. But while you were doing so, did you ever have a bad trip… a really bad trip? If so, then you know what the art of Sacramento based artist Jared Tharp looks like. Taking visual cues from '70s and '80s arcade greats with an underlying sense of paranoia and anxiety, Tharp's artwork is a psychotropic dose of nostalgia gone wrong. And yet you want to look at it. Which, in the end, is what makes art good, right?
