"Quartemaine" custom painted 18" Mega-Munny by Kalin Thompson... is jaw dropping!!!
Artist Kalin Thompson just sent over some seriously impressive pictures of a giant Mega-Munny he just completed called "Quartermaine". It was recently on display at a show in Brisbane, Australia called "Mo' Munny Mo' Problems", where it received exceptional feedback and attention... I wonder why??? Dude, this thing is exceptional for sure... and is a perfect example of why vinyl toys are art forms! This one of one toy designed and custom painted by Kalin took around 250 hours of painting, not including the work that went into varnishing! Kalin tells us that "When I was asked to participate in the exhibition I wanted to do something different then what the normal toy looks like. I chose to approach it with a very classical style and subject matter. The doll is painted entirely with acrylic paints but using more classical oil techniques and mediums: underpainting, blending, etc. Then the whole doll was finished with a clear coat varnish to give it its shine." Oh man, this is so great... kinda speechless over here!
Now, I am not sure with how familiar any of you out there reading this are with Kalin's work... but I can almost guarantee this piece above got your attention... as it did just that for me! This amazing painterly piece will be up for silent auction for the next 4 weeks HERE (not yet as the event was last night), so if you dig what you see... support this artist... and I sure hope this is not the last time we hear from Kalin... keep killing it dude!!!
