*REVIEW* "I Am Plastic, Too: The Next Generation of Designer Toys" by Paul Budnitz
Well we got our hands on the new'ish book from Kidrobot founder Paul Budnitz, which had its official release last July, and is the follow-up to his 2006 book "I Am Plastic", which is a great book, filled with amazing pictures and info, now "I Am Plastic, Too: The Next Generation of Vinyl Toys" is a seriously epic companion... weighing in at 368-pages, this hardcover book is everything it's cracked up to be and if you are a fan/collector/admirer of the designer toy scene, this is a must! We did another LIVE review, and flipped through alot of these pages, but in all honesty, the video does not do it justice..
This time around the main focus in this book is the huge influence that Western designers have made in the scene... and it's packed with toys from 130 artists and companies and includes extensive interviews with thirteen of the hottest designers working today. Many of the favorite creators from the first book are back along with new designers such as Amanda Visell, Brandt Peters, eBoy, Jon Burgerman, Kathie Olivas and Tara McPherson, and another great addition is the awesome customs from so many deserving artists in the scene! This list price is around $45, but you can find it on Amazon HERE for around $30... and it's worth every penny. I also want to give a huge shout out to Abrams Publishing as they put out a fantastic piece of literature!
