*ON SITE* 'Escapist' Arkiv's solo show @ Toy Art Gallery 8/5/2011
Last night marked the opening of Indonesian artist Arkiv's solo show titled 'Escapist' that was held at Toy Art Gallery in Los Angeles... and unfortunatly for me I was unable to make it out but we had friend of the site Ryan Resco stop by the show and take all the fantastic photos you see, capturing the mood and atmosphere from the opening celebration. The show itself looked amazing and it featured several acrylic on canvas paintings, including a canvas that Arkiv was painting live, some resin sculptures, and also some great vinyl figures like his "Arkiv Instant"... and brand spankin new to the vinyl scene was his "Sumo" vinyl figure, the black/gray TAG exclusive which was produced by adFunture (8" around for $125, ltd. 100 pieces) and a prototype of an upcoming vinyl figure tentatively titled "Banana" which show one of Arkiv's figure emerging from the peel!
One of the things you will notice from all the pictures above, and for what Arkiv is know for, is his swooping fluid lines... which are complex/crisp and are absolutely mind bending in person! The way that he takes his characters and warps them into almost surrealistic shapes blending colors and patterns is truly unique, and the really cool thing about his 2D work is that it translates over very well into his 3D sculptural works. If you can't make it out, be sure to visit the preview page HERE, but this show will be up until August 26th, so be sure to pop by to see the works in person... on another note, Arkiv will be doing a live painting/signing session TODAY, Saturday, August 6th from 2pm-5pm, and added bonus if you were unable to make it out for the opening! Hit the jump for more photos!
