Final details on 3A's Barguest De plume
Barguest De Plume is coming up for sale next week on Thursday the 24th on Bambaland. The sale will start at 5 pm pacific time. Barguest (shown above) marks a bittersweet moment in 3A history, the end of the Nom De Plume body style. So lets look back on the history of this great figure... Hit the jump for a full history breakdown on this EPIC line of figures...
Ashley has wanted to move on from the "De Plume" style since 2009 when he initially remarked that there would be no more. Though fans have known Ash to retract his statements in times past, (last years Jung De Plume comes to mind) I wouldn't count on it this time. Jung as mentioned before was more of a answer to 3A fans who had missed out on the original Nom De Plumes. Noir, Nom, Gebi and Blanc were early iterations of the classic gas masked figure. Nom De Plume has always been the wild card figure in the WWR (World War Robot)universe, with many likening him to Boba Fett. In 2009 Ashley opened up about Nom's and introduced fans to the idea of a whole sect of Nom, this time setting it up as a sort of organization or N.O.M. (not ordinary men) as evidenced both online on the forum and in WWR vol. 2.
In 2009 he fleshed out this group with the Nom Commanders two figures that were produced in 3A owners Ash and Kim's likeness. They were also set apart from classic De Plume style by the dual hoses and removable gas masks. 2010 saw the marked return of a de plume in classic single hosed figure but this time Ashley had warned that it was not "Nom De Plume" the classic figure (who changed his name to suit his needs or conditions be it Nom, Noir, Blanc, or Gebi) but Jung De Plume a whole new figure in the WWR universe, and ushered in another line up to the N.O.M's - the Fallen De Plume.
Fallen De Plume were once N.O.M but had left the fold, their existence still shrouded in mystery and marked by the first figure Kuan Ti Plume. Kuan Ti Plume as the first Fallen De Plume (known for having cloth draped over their gas mask) was sold at the Beijing gathering a classic 3A event in China. Fans clamored for this new version in red and yellow with the classic fallen cloth mask. Ash answered this call by announcing that there would be at least one more of the fallen to be seen. Barguest answers this call and while we've seen a few iterations to the Nom line up (single hose gas mask, dual hose masks and cloth shrouded masks) barring Nom Commanders they've basically followed the classic De Plume style.
So what new path for N.O.M. will 3A embark on? Only Ash knows for sure though I'd venture to guess that it will involve a whole new style and it will be another instant classic. Until then we can happy in the knowledge that we have one final chance at the classic "De Plume" style and for those that still haven't had a chance at a "Fallen" De Plume you can grab one this coming week. Two versions will be available, the standard version shown above and a "Ghost De Plume" that will be whitish in color. Both versions are priced at $120 and include free shipping worldwide and only on sale at bambaland.
