Aaron Crawford's "Pause & Claws" solo show preview
Today we are getting an exclusive look at a new painting done up by Aaron Crawford for his upcoming, and very first, solo show titled "Pause and Claws" which opens Friday, May 6th at SKY CITY in downtown Augusta, GA. Although this is a few months out, Aaron want to start getting people excited for it, and obviously he is doing a stellar job... just look at the creeptastic "Candycorn Bat"! Aaron really like to create shapes and figures with tons on interweaving lines along with dark looming colors... this is going to be a great show... stay tuned for more!
Aaron explains his solo show, along with the above painting:
"This will be my first ever solo art exhibit, which is insanely exciting, and stressful. I wanted to push myself in a lot of ways with the body of work that I'm doing for this exhibit. Mainly doing everything on canvas, which is weird for me, because I've always been really intimidated by painting on canvas for some weird reason. I've always worked on smoother surfaces, such as wood, panels, etc, so it took a bit of getting used to, but it's so much fun. The show is called "Pause and Claws" which is a silly play on words, get it, "pause" and "paws". yea. Basically means, you will be pausing to look at the work, and digest in some way. and a lot of it has paws and lots of claws. Each painting is it's own special animal or being, and they each have a special power, or something about them that makes them odd or amazing, or even an anomaly in the animal kingdom. Everything from an Ibex that hunts it's pray by shooting lasers from it's eyes, to this painting I just finished with a Bat that is made of half candycorn that feeds on sugar filled blood. I've always loved animals (who doesn't) and they are so much fun to draw, so I thought to myself, why not take normal creatures, and make them even more special in a way, and give them these extreme powers or change their physical appearance. It's still a house cat, but he has spider legs instead of normal cat legs. Stuff like that. I also wanted to pushed myself to try different mediums, such as sculpture and such. Some of the paintings are missing a part of the body in the art itself, so I made physical pieces, sort of like missing puzzle pieces, and will be displaying them in a separate frame next to the art. Just to kinda of give the animals a physical presence in a way. This is a very ambitious show for me, and I couldn't be more excited. If you're in the Georgia / Carolina area, you should come and look at my creatures. Rad."
