'THE BENEFITS OF EXHAUSTION' An exhibition of art by Matthew Ryan Sharp
[PRESS] A practicing insomniac, Matthew Ryan Sharp spends weeks in his studio insatiably conceptualizing and sketching new drawings and paintings influenced by the traveling Midway, dust bowl drifters, and the domestic bourgeoisie. Fearless in his execution, the artist documents in each piece an untold story ripe with history, craftsmanship and misery. Having participated in over 40 national and international exhibitions since 2006, Matthew has been inviting viewers to develop and bond with each of his characters' psyche and spirit.
Being hosted by William Rupnik Gallery and debuting at the opening is Matthew's limited edition, self-published book, The Benefits of Exhaustion. The 120-page softcover book chronicles the artist's past six years of restlessness, anxiety and dedication in way of paint and brush, pencil and page. Custom hand-sewn and hand-painted plushies, iPod and iPhone hard cases starring Matthew's ghoulish creatures will also be featured at the opening. A portion of all sales will be donated to The Rainbow Connection Animal Foundation, a non-profit, no-kill, 100% volunteer animal rescue organization based in Cleveland.
Opening reception at the gallery 7-10 PM, Friday, October 15, 2010. After-party at Lava Lounge 10 PM - ? AM.
