For those unfamiliar with you and your work can you tell us a little about yourself and your craft?
The short version is I'm from Kansas City and I make stuff. Specifically, I work days at a children's marketing agency doing illustration... I work nights on my side project company MUTT... and I work weekends on my personal art. My work itself is a mashup of a number of influences, but namely traditional illustration and street art.
With Shady Characters being the title of the show, how does your work represent this theme?
Well, I love drawing/painting monsters... monsters ARE pretty shady dudes!
Is this a theme that is regularly seen in your work?
I do tend to like the darker side of things with my own work, and the works of others that I admire.
And lastly on the Shady Character front, do you see yourself as a Shady Character?
Naw, quite the opposite.
Do the subjects in your pieces represent you or anything that you are going through?
What I'm painting or working on at the moment is totally woven into what I'm involved in and into at that point in time. My art is constantly evolving with me as I grow and explore things, so it absolutely represents what i am going through. Im always finding new things I dig, so I cant see myself ever getting stagnant.
What else do you have going on in the near future that you would like to let folks know about?
There's always things in the works... new art, new MUTT stuff, shows, releases, ect. I've got some rather odd projects in production stages right now that I'm really excited about, but Ill have to keep my mouth shut on them for now. The best way to follow my work is probably my facebook (facebook.com/tyleRcoey), it tends to get the updates first. Also, keep an eye on MUTTtoy.com for new releases from a whole range of badass artists!
