MAQUET, an online toy printing company
MAQET, a San Francisco based company, is a new online place to create 3D generate characters based on their specific templates, and they have a few pretty cool ones like the ninja, and octi. I do wish these site gave you the freedom to upload your won design and get it printed for the same low price (maybe after rereading this it might happen :-). The basic concept behind the process is this... design your own 3D characters online and turn them into toys.
With each template you have a variety of different choices, i.e. what face to choose, the body pose, different accessories etc, so you can make it your own. The products are eco-friendly, made from a starch base and are biodegradable. The first series of characters were created by Ghostbot, but MAQET is launching new customizable characters by artists like Ed Bell, Dave Gordon and Sho Murase. All of the toys can be designed for free online or you can order a DIY blank-slate white option, and they all start at $20 a pop for the small version or $40 for the larger version. I made a small version of the "Octi" figure and should have it in this week, and I will let you all know my hands on impression!
