"NEW YORK, NEW YORK" at Phillips De Pury & Co.

Saturday December 12th Phillips De Pury & Co. will host another in their new series of Contemporary Art "Theme Sales" and this one's entitled, "NEW YORK, NEW YORK"! 'Art on the trains' was born some 50 years ago and came of age in the 1970's and 80's, finally becoming recognized and and achieving international status as Contemporary Art only a little more than a decade ago.

The emergence of Toy Art exploding onto the world retina has attracted some of the pre-eminent subway tag writers from the 'golden age' to join toy artists in the creation of perfectly faithful scale models of the NY subway trains of this era. COPE 2, GHOST, TKID, EWOKONE and SUCKLORD have created 13 inch hand-painted versions of their masterpieces, some of which heretofore, only survived in photographs. These are original works of art that have found an enduring platform, faithful scale models of the NY subway trains of this era. They are joined by 'Subway Art-ifacts' including the hand-tagged and vibrant, widely collected, authentic NYCTA subway maps of COPE 2 and 'track work' signs of GHOST (stripped from the bowels of NY).

Also offered is Bob Conge's glowing 'embraceable caution', the Indian Point Nuclear 'mascot' from his Night Gamer series rendered in a soft mauve vinyl with an exposed lighted reactor brain. Bob's particularly vast wasteland of imagination aided and abetted like the worst of criminals by an overactive, born-again type need to create and replete with talents that scare the uninitiated and thrill the connoisseur have produced just for this NEW YORK E-X-P-O-S-E a most mischievous-looking one of a kind gremlin.
