Color Ink Book Exclusives for SDCC 09
I've seen the Brothers Washburn at A.P.E. and Wondercon. Now, they're poised to descend on SDCC with a spectrum of exclusive merchandise. This may be the one entity in which all your favorite artists have appeared, but you still don't know about. Let's change that:
Color Ink Book is a color-optional, black and white offset-print lowbrow/pop surrealist art periodical, focusing on the DIY spirit of the art culture. They have worked with Julie West, Jim Mahfood, Sara Antoinette Martin, Bubi Au Yeung, Annie Owens, Anthony Ausgang, Nathan Spoor, MCA, Abe Lincoln Jr. and many more. As the Brothers Washburn put it, they are "the fo-realest art periodical".
Take that, Juxtapoz!
Now back to those exclusives: Color Ink Book volume 4 features a street cover by Joe Ledbetter, plus five additional covers (limited to 30 copies each) by JFish, Jermaine Rogers, Jim Mahfood (aka Food One), Nathan Fox and Tado. JLED, Jim, Nathan and Tado (and many others) also contributed B&W art to the interior of the book.
Fancy something in three dimensions? Steff Bomb created 25 ten-inch plush dolls based on the Color Ink Book mascot, Rayola. Not to be outdone, JFish whipped up 50 GID Skeleton Rayola zipper pulls (sculpted by David Arshawsky of TMNT fame).
Finally, expect t-shirts, prints and a "gaggle of surprises". I don't know about you, but I find coloring really calming. I'm hardly an artist, either, so imagine what some of you talented types could do within the outlines of your art heroes...Follow the giant plush crayons to Color Ink Book. They're good peeps!
