Tara McPherson @ Narwhal Arts Projects May 8 2009

Toronto's one stop vinyl and art shop Magic Pony has opened up a separate gallery space that they have dubbed "Narwhal Art Projects". Tara McPherson was in town for a show at the gallery, and as a guest at The Toronto Comic Arts Festival.

The show was opening at 6pm, but by about 5:30 a line of excited fans had started to form. In line the fans chatted about how they found out about McPherson's work. Many had discovered her from the show posters she has done for bands from the punk, hardcore, and metal music scenes. Shortly after 6 the doors opened and the fans drooled over the prints that hung on the walls.
McPherson was very friendly and took the time to chat with each fan for a little while as she doodled and sketched in books or on toys. She even added a little personal touch to the framed pieces on the walls, adding a little doodle at the buyer's request. A soundtrack of music by bands that McPherson has worked with played in the background, I think it's the first time I have heard Mastodon play in a gallery space.
