Ruby Winkle by Meghan Killeen

Ruby Winkle is a tale about a young girl who tirelessly searches for sleep. Through a series of mishap inventions, imitations and insight, Ruby soon discovers that the best solution for sleep is surprisingly the simplest. When Meghan approached me about posting this, I was more than happy to help get her art out there, her long term goals are to make this character into a toy... hopefully plush. Ruby Winkle pursues an evasive night of sleep with her teddy bear companion, Garble. She comically uses science, sleuth work and inventions to regain her loss of sleep. She also questions the supernatural possibilities of a monster and turns to the magic of hypnosis to aid her quest for rest. Along the way, Ruby meets several characters who try to help her relentless search. Skats, the beatnik bat, demonstrates his freestyle form of sleep and Dink, the glowworm nightlight, offers his illuminating guidance. After a sequence of ingenious attempts and trials,
it is Rubys mother who offers the easiest suggestion
for a night of zzz...s.


MEGHAN KILLEEN BIO:
Ruby Winkle is both authored and illustrated by Meghan Killeen. Ms. Killeen was born near a forest in sleepy Pennsylvania yet one day traveled to the West Coast in search of the sea and success. She attended the Art Institute of California in San Francisco and also became a certified English instructor. She worked for a detective agency and also performed in a circus troupe. She has now returned to the forest where she writes stories and makes characters continuously come alive. Ms. Killeen currently works for an animation studio.
