Mizuki Shigeru × SECRETBASE
Mizuki Shigeru × SECRETBASE - Featured Father
Some history about this figure being release by Secret Base. GeGeGe no Kitarou? It is about a boy and his father. Boring, you might decide, until you realize the boy is the last in a long line of goblins, and only has one eye - and his father is a little eyeball with arms and legs. And their friends are the youkai, or ghosts, goblins and spirits of Japan. And GeGeGe no Kitarou is often translated as Kitarou the Spooky - gegege is apparently an onomatopoeia for the noise a person makes when they are frightened. Its enduring popularity rivals that of Charles Schulz's Peanuts here in America. Kitarou's companions are an equally compelling combination of gentle and fearsome. His father, Medama Oyaji, was originally a mummy who died, leaving only his eyeball, which has arms and legs on a tiny body, oddly enough.
This figure was based off the Magna "HAKABA KITARO - EPISODE 1" and will be limited to the number of sales, and will be cut off once the number of reservations has been reached. This item scheduled delivery date of mid-January. Reservations, 12/24 (Wednesday) morning to 10 o'clock. This product will cost around $65, and you can pre-order from this website!

When I was a very young child and US Air Force Brat back in the early '70s (please DO NOT do the math), I was lucky enough to live in Japan for a few years. GeGeGe no Kitaro was one of my favorite anime series back then, and although I didn't understand the dialogue (could sing the heck out of the theme song though), I never missed an episode. It warms my heart to see that it continues to be so popular in Japan. Seems like it's been around forever! Thanks for the informative update. Guess I'll have to look into getting one of these figures for my toy shelf.
Awesome, thank you so much for this story, and hopefully I can find updates on when and where this figure is going to release.
Man, they sold out quick!
I wish the eyeball guy
was separate from the
ghost thing so the toy
could stand on its own.
As it is you'll have to
hang it on something.
Hey! that's what Christmas
trees are good for. Wow!
what an ornament that
would make :P
That would make a great ornament!
