I'm not sure I can adequately explain the meaning of "Panchito Mariachi", but I'll do my best as that is indeed the title of Méxican artist
Lupilu Soler's contribution to the
Dunny Hecho en México (or DMX) collective's forthcoming "Día de Muertos 2" series. I'm assuming that "mariachi" is a recognizable term to most, being the traditional musical form from Western Mexico; though you can read more about it
HERE if you so desire. "Panchito", on the other hand, isn't as definitive a thing. To the best of my understanding, it is a derogatory nickname, literally implying a "big belly" and intending to point out a person's laziness and unattractiveness. And while Lupilu Soler's "Panchito Mariachi" might be wearing his performance attire a little snug, there's nothing about this guy that isn't beautifully done, including his Calavera, or Day of the Dead sugar skull, derived face. With only four handmade copies using this design in red being randomly included within the DMX8 blind boxes, one very lucky person will receive the black attired chase version that comes with a guitar accessory slung over its back!
The
previously announced "Dia de Muertos 2" series (DMX8) will feature an amazing array of talent. The lineup has been revealed to be
Avatar666, Cucaracha Borracha,
El Hooligan,
Jump Jumper Ant, Lupilu Soler, Matucha,
Mr. Mitote,
Shiffa,
Tadeo Mendoza, and Yoste KMKZ with three chase designs made by Matucha, Lupila Soler, and Cucaracha Borracha as well as one Golden Ticket prize made by Tadeo Mendoza, though the Golden Ticket winner will just have to cover shipping costs of it. Sales of the $105 apiece blind boxes (shipping not included) will begin on October 20th, 2017 at 11am Pacific time, with those interested simply emailing orders to
dunnyhechoenmexico [at] gmail [dot] com.
